Bronchospasm in the cold: will a scarf help and what the Swedes are cunning

In general, asthmatics are more likely to suffer from this. There are more asthmatics than you think. They can easily be 10 percent of the population.

It is even more interesting that each of us after a cold can solemnly declare himself an asthmatic. Because about a month and a half after bronchitis, our bronchi have the right to be very nervous.

Such bronchi are easily upset from any irritant and spasm. Crazy. So after a cold I do not advise doing a spirogram. Otherwise, you may be written off as asthmatics.

In fact, anyone can get bronchospasm in the cold. Our nerve bronchi are accustomed by mother nature that pre-heated and humidified air should fly into them. They are spoiled with us.

If you breathe in cold air in the cold, then a reflex is triggered, and the bronchi can spasm. This does not mean that they are harmful. Bronchospasm occurs by chance.

The meaning of the reflex was not in the spasm of the bronchi, but in the spasm of small veins in the walls of the bronchi.

The point is that we cool down very easily through breathing. And we heat up easily too. Rescuers have special expensive steam generators that blow heated air into a numb person. It is very effective.

Just as effectively, a person can freeze. Our body understands that breathing in frosty air can freeze, therefore it narrows the veins in the walls of the bronchi. Less heat is lost this way. As a side effect, the bronchi are also narrowed.

We usually don't notice this. But an asthmatic person can whistle.

The Swedes swear and swear that 40% of their speed skaters have suffered severely from frost and therefore have asthma. But this is a lie. Asthmatics are becoming Scandinavian athletes so they can legally use asthma drugs that are considered doping.

In short, do not run at minus 15 degrees, and there will be no bronchospasm. Or cover your face with a scarf, mask, balaclava.

Personally, I walk in the woods and at minus 30 degrees. In a thin fleece balaclava. Yes, it is covered with frost, but it does not harm anything. Yes, if I used mascara and eyeliner, it would be uncomfortable. But I don’t use it. Which is what I wish for you.
