Ceftriaxone causes gallstones, but they are not real

Now ceftriaxone is in vogue. This is a good drug, but some have hinted that it causes gallstones. I explain.

Ceftriaxone is a very popular antibiotic. He is especially loved in poorer countries. It is safe and effective, and it floats in the blood for a very long time. It's comfortable.

Approximately 40% of ceftriaxone is excreted from our body in the bile. There its concentration is 100 times higher than in blood.

And in 1986, they noticed that gallstones sometimes appear from ceftriaxone.

Rather, it only seemed like stones. In fact, so much calcium-bound ceftriaxone accumulated in the bile that it dissolves worse, and clots appeared that looked like stones on ultrasound.

While they began to actively use ultrasound to diagnose stones in the gallbladder, well, they ran into such an effect.

They say that if you try very hard, then almost every fourth person can find something similar to stones in the gallbladder after ceftriaxone.

Usually these things don't show themselves in any way. Occasionally, someone's right side aches.

Such pseudo stones appear somewhere on average for 10 days, and after a couple of weeks they dissolve without a trace.

In this case, the main thing is not to run into a surgeon who does not ask about anything, and whose hands itch to rid the sick person of the gallbladder.

Well, that is, if your urine turned red from beets, this does not mean that you ruined your beet buds. And if after ceftriaxone something is visible on the ultrasound of the gallbladder, this does not mean that you have ruined your gallbladder with ceftriaxone. Is it clear?
