Hello! I have been working as a doctor for 22 years. My name is Georgy Olegovich Sapego. In this article, I'll talk about alcohol in breast milk.
It is better for nursing women not to drink alcohol at all.
Small amounts of alcohol may be excreted in breast milk. No one knows for sure how much alcohol a nursing woman can drink without harm to the child.
The maximum concentration of ethyl alcohol in breast milk is found approximately 30-60 minutes after drinking alcohol.
It is generally accepted that after one American portion of alcohol, you need to wait two hours and only then breastfeed.
One American serving of alcohol is:
- 14 grams of pure alcohol;
- about 350 milliliters of beer (if it is 5 degrees);
- about 150 milliliters of wine (if it is 12 degrees);
- about 45 milliliters of vodka.
If the woman drank more than this dose, then you need to wait another two additional hours for each extra dose.
If the breast is tolerant, then usually it is not necessary to specially express and drain the milk. The concentration of alcohol in breast milk decreases on its own along with the concentration in the blood.
In any case, it is better not to get carried away with drinking, because alcohol is bad for the ability to care for a child. For mothers who have drunk, children often fall out from somewhere, gag, spar and drown.
