If a person lacks ascorbic acid (vitamin C), then scurvy begins. It is a rarity. You need to eat only animal food and specifically avoid vegetables.
This happens to starving people, to alcoholics, or to psychos. Usually after three months of such freaks, symptoms begin.
Vitamin C strengthens the wall of the blood vessels, so if it is not enough, then the vessels deteriorate and become damaged. Bruises and bruises appear, arms and legs hurt, gums bleed. Weakness and shortness of breath gradually rolls over. You can die.
Recurrent scurvy
For some reason, some people believe that they can afford to ingest vitamin C in gigantic amounts.
Ascorbic acid belongs to water-soluble vitamins. This means that the kidneys very quickly cope with the excretion of excess vitamin. If you indulge in vitamin C long enough, then the kidneys remove it instantly.
At some point, the pampering ends, and the person goes on a regular diet. But the kidneys do not understand this and continue to whistle out vitamin C. It turns out that a person does not hesitate to eat plant foods, but he does not have enough vitamin. So scurvy can begin on the background of a normal diet. This scurvy is called recurrent.
They say that recurrent scurvy can hurt newborns in mothers who overeat ascorbic acid during pregnancy.
Many vitamin C connoisseurs argue that there is no recurrent scurvy.
In any case, it is better not to experiment with vitamins, but to consult a doctor once again.
