Why do people take bovine colostrum

Hello! I have been working as a doctor for 22 years. My name is Georgy Olegovich Sapego. In this article I will talk about doping from bovine colostrum.

It seemed to me that this was a bike, but I looked at the latest publications, and it turns out that the topic is still relevant. Nobody really scolds this thing. Although, this is all, of course, for an amateur.

Colostrum

In the first 24 - 72 hours after calving, the cow does not give milk, but colostrum. It is such a concentrate of nutrients and biologically active substances to quickly support the calf.

Athletes believe that any colostrum supplement will improve their performance. It can be liquid stuff, and powders, and tablets, and all kinds of artisanal bullshit.

Some studies confirm the effect, and some don't.

It is believed that the possible effect in terms of increasing the strength of athletes is associated with insulin-like growth factor 1 (as they write with the number 1 at the end). It is a biologically active substance found in colostrum.

Now, if some anti-doping committee checks athletes, then they are guided by this substance. But, it seems, no one has been banned for this case yet.

Well, the insulin-like growth factor 1 itself has been trying to adapt for 40 years as doping. Also, in my opinion, not a harmless thing.

Immunity

There is a small but decent scientific study in which athletes had fewer colds while taking colostrum supplements. It is believed that these athletes are not as pronounced as the "open window" effect, which we have already discussed. That is, their immunity sags less from intense training and then recovers faster.

For me, it's kind of weird, but it looks like bovine colostrum is not the most useless thing. In any case, it is better to consult a doctor about any doping.
