When a doctor sees a patient for the first time, he must measure blood pressure on two hands. Because it can be different.

For subsequent use, choose the hand on which the pressure is higher. This is logical. Because it is very easy to spoil and lower blood pressure. It is enough to pinch the artery, and the tonometer intends significantly lower or does not intend at all.

It used to be fashionable to say that different pressure on different hands is like a narrowing of the subclavian artery, and this is bad. But then it turned out that everything is even worse.

The difference is greater than 10

If the difference in upper blood pressure between the two hands is greater than 10 millimeters of mercury, then that person most likely has noticeable atherosclerosis in the peripheral arteries.

The difference is more than 15

A difference in upper blood pressure of 15 millimeters of mercury or more across different arms may indicate a higher risk of heart attacks, strokes, and death from all of these.

This is not to say that this is a direct sentence. But you will have to be examined, look for a problem and control your atherosclerosis, because the risk of dying is much higher.

It should be

It turns out that when you first meet your doctor, you will be threatened with measuring blood pressure on two hands. And even when the doctor chooses his favorite hand, he must measure it at least twice.

Between measurements, you will have to wait a couple of minutes for the blood to drain from the hand. Well, that is, the cuff of the tonometer acts like a tourniquet, and the blood stagnates. This distorts the result. So it takes a little
wait.

If the two measurements on your favorite hand differ by more than 5 millimeters of mercury, then you need to measure again and again until the result becomes reproducible. Then you need to take the last two results, calculate the average value between them and solemnly enter it into the outpatient card.

Did the cardiologist measure your blood pressure like that? Has your cardiologist ever consulted you without listening to your heart with a straw?
