Refrigerators protect against stomach cancer

Hello! I have been a doctor for 21 years. My name is Georgy Olegovich Sapego. Today I'll tell you about refrigerators and stomach cancer.

This was noticed in the second half of the twentieth century. The Japanese were most delighted. They often had stomach cancer, but in the 60s and 70s of the last century, technologies began to develop at a frantic pace in Japan, and the incidence for some reason decreased.

A similar story happened with the Italians. Only 10 years earlier.

Until 1950, home refrigerators were few and far between.

The British conducted research at home and found that the risk of developing stomach cancer is noticeably reduced if you use the refrigerator for at least 30 years.

There are several reasons for this beneficial action.

On the one hand, fresh vegetables and fruits can be stored in the refrigerator for a long time. They are high in antioxidants that protect against cancer.

On the other hand, you can store meat in the refrigerator without salt, preservatives, smoking and other additives harmful to the stomach.

Chilled food will have fewer bacteria and molds that release carcinogens.

How did you even know

Usually, such dependencies were identified using questionnaires. They literally sent people a bundle of papers asking them about refrigerators, diet and health.

I liked the approach the British used to check for refrigerators. It was in the mid-80s. Scientists evaluated the amount of milk that was sold in the area sterilized or pasteurized.

It turned out that in those areas where half of the milk was bought sterilized, people were more likely to have stomach cancer. In favorable regions, sterilized milk was sold no more than 10%. The researchers concluded that sterilized milk is bought by those who do not have refrigerators. Witty.
