Hello! I have been a doctor for 21 years. My name is Georgy Olegovich Sapego. In this article, I'll tell you something useful about cysts in the pancreas.
They started talking about cysts in the pancreas, because people are now doing all sorts of CT or MRI for various reasons and they accidentally find cysts. They are found in the pancreas in about 2% of people when they have a CT scan for some other reason.
Pancreatic cysts are divided into three types:
- filled with inflammatory fluid;
- harmless cysts;
- tumors in the form of cysts.
Even if a person had pancreatitis, then a cyst in the pancreas in half of the cases is associated with some kind of tumor. Therefore, the cyst will be monitored and repeated tomograms.
Inflammatory cysts
They sometimes appear after pancreatitis. There are no holes in the pancreas. It's just that the inflammatory fluid has accumulated somewhere near the gland.
Such a cyst does not have its own wall. This is a fluid that has dripped somewhere near the pancreas. In about the same way as after the rain a puddle will flow near the house.
There are also so-called pseudocysts. That is, not true pancreatic cysts. They also appear next to the pancreas. These cysts grow about a month after acute pancreatitis, and they have their own wall. This sometimes happens after an injury to the pancreas.
There are also cysts in the place where the pancreas has melted. These cysts have no wall. It's just a hole in the pancreas where bits of lumps can float.
Sometimes a hole in the pancreas is fenced off from the healthy part of the gland by a capsule and becomes like an abscess.
That is, there are many options, and everything is very complicated. It happens that a tumor grows in the pancreas, squeezes the ducts, and pancreatitis is obtained. Or a person just has ordinary pancreatitis, and against its background a tumor grows. Therefore, cysts will be monitored and controlled for some time.
Harmless cyst
As with any organ that has tubules or ducts, these thin tubes in the pancreas can become clogged and result in a cyst. Usually, there is no harm from such cysts. They are operated on only if they hurt.
Tumor in the form of a cyst
They are different. Sometimes benign and sometimes malignant.
It happens that a benign cyst turns into cancer.
How do they feel
Usually they don't feel anything. Occasionally there is abdominal pain that radiates to the back. It happens that a person feels or touches a formation in the upper abdomen.
There may be nausea and vomiting.
It happens that the cyst is inflamed. Then the stomach aches and the body temperature rises. In such cases, an urgent need to consult a doctor.
If the cyst bursts
He will suddenly get sick. There will be severe abdominal pain, weakness, palpitations. The person may be disconnected.
Prevention
If the doctor suggests removing the gallbladder with stones, then do not refuse. Because gallstones can cause pancreatitis, and pancreatitis can cause cysts.
You can also earn pancreatitis if you drink regularly. Better not to overuse.
There are also pancreatic cysts after injury, so don't let any horses kick you in the stomach.
For all questions related to cysts in the pancreas, be sure to consult with your doctor. Cysts are different. Some need to be monitored so as not to miss a tumor. Therefore, do not disappear from the field of vision of specialists and do not self-medicate.
