Women over 45 often ask me what length of skirt to choose to look modern and younger than their years, while not stepping over the fine line of balance and not being considered youthful.
So there is no right or wrong length. There is one that decorates, and one that looks, to put it mildly, not very. Everything is individual, but there are principles that determine the harmony of the image - it is on them that I advise my clients to focus.
I draw your attention to the fact that these are not strict postulates, but my personal observations as a stylist. Your opinion may not be the same as mine, and that's perfectly fine.
Let's look at examples of dangerous and safe lengths for women of fashion 45+.
Dresses
Bad option
Despite the fact that the woman has a beautiful figure and slender legs, the dress above the knee length makes the image infantile. It looks as if it was borrowed from the wardrobe of a younger sister, and in theory, it should be younger, but the effect has the exact opposite - it focuses on age.
A good option
Light and flowing midi-length dress - I say yes to him. The “character” and the length of the dress do not make the image heavier, but make it laconic and interesting. It definitely suits a woman very well.
In addition, this dress is a godsend for the designer of stylish combinations. It will look good with almost any wardrobe item, be it a jacket, an elongated jacket or a chunky knit sweater. You can choose shoes according to your mood, alternating stilettos-glasses with sneakers with voluminous soles.
A good option
A dress in a romantic style with a soft ruffle at the bottom looks delicate, beautiful and modern. The correct length emphasizes the light, but not frivolous attitude of the image.
Skirts
Bad option
A white skirt with a lace frill up to the knee looks more like a petticoat, which must be covered with something chiffon and translucent. I would not recommend wearing it as an independent item, in my opinion, such a skirt is only a place in a home wardrobe, paired with a T-shirt and cozy ballet slippers.
A good option
A model with a smell is in trend. A sophisticated skirt with bold flounces lends a feminine look. In this case, the midi length is simply necessary, if it were shorter, the skirt would look vulgar. Please note that companion items in combination with the "complex" dominant of the image are extremely laconic - a light T-shirt and sneakers.
A good option
Charismatic (but not aggressive) leo-print and "ripped" length are definitely the merits of this skirt. It will sit equally well on both curvy and narrow hips, emphasize slender legs and a beautiful silhouette of the figure.
A good option
Perhaps this is how the formula for an ideal skirt for spring looks like: straight (or trapezoidal) cut, medium length, bright print and a slit in the front or slightly on the side. All three options are stylish, bold and most suitable for... age. Moreover, anyone! I really like these skirts, they reflect the individuality that cannot be silent, erase conventions and level the generally accepted framework, including age.
There are no images in the lineup ultramini and tight-fitting styles - not at all because they are contraindicated for women of elegant age, it is just that today they are far from trends.
In modern fashion governs adequate oversize, and tight kits are good only in exceptional cases and on figures with ideal parameters. Therefore, for a straight skirt that sits like a glove, it is better to select a voluminous top, and for a flared one, on the contrary, tight-fitting. As for the length, there is no average and optimal value, but, according to my observations, skirts and dresses lengths below the knee and up to mid-calf suit 45-year-old women of fashion more than mini and maxi
