Yesterday's episodes of "The Magnificent Century" on home, became difficult for many viewers, and for sure many were sitting in front of the TV screen with a handkerchief.
It does not fit in my head how his own father could make such a decision, and even be present at the execution itself. Although no less struck by the shouts of the sovereign:
- Faster Faster!
Which is faster, sorry to ask? Take the life of your offspring?
But, in this article, we will not talk about the execution itself, but about the letter.
Mustafa, before going to the military camp to the sovereign, wrote a letter "to the future" in his tent. He trusted his father and was sure that the master would not betray him. But he was ready for another outcome of events, which is why he wrote a letter, which, if executed, should fall into the hands of the sovereign.
In the letter, Mustafa spoke of his love and devotion to his father, and also that he never betrayed him and will not betray him. He also reminded his father that they once gave each other their word: Mustafa will not betray his father, and the sovereign will not execute him.
Mustafa kept his word, but the lord did not. And now his hands are in sin, he has destroyed an innocent soul.
Judging by the series, Suleiman really took the life of his own child, who was not even given a chance to explain.
I do not think that it was so difficult for Suleiman to make this decision, because if there were another son (especially Mehmed) in Mustafa's place, he would hardly have given such an order.
And what is sad, even after reading this letter, Suleiman did not regret what he had done, for he would not have executed Mustafa's little son. But, this is purely my opinion.
