Meryem knew that her son Kerim was in love with Elif and had nothing against it. Meryem believed that the youthful love of her son would soon cool down and he would bring a decent girl into the house. But Meryem did not expect that Elif would give her consent to marry her son.
Meryem was against this wedding, because Elif is carrying Kahraman's child. But Kerim managed to reach out to the heart of her mother, and Meryem gave up, giving her blessing.

Meryem could not cope with the bitterness of the loss of her only son.
She blamed only Elif for his death.
This girl brought only grief to her son, and after for her sake, he gave his life.
Meryem did not want to see Elif, blaming her for all the troubles.
Despite the mourning, Kahraman and Elif signed quietly.
And at the behest of Ziya Bey, Kahraman brought his lawful wife to his house.
When Meryem saw Elif, she made a scandal, saying that she would poison her life. Meryem was distraught with grief. She forbade the servants to feed or water Elif.
Meryem's heart turned to stone. The once kind, reasonable and calm Meryem turned into a woman thirsty for revenge.
