What was Selim's ruler in the Ottoman Empire

Selim did not particularly crave power, but his obstinate concubine Nurbanu had a different opinion. Nurbanu understood that the Fatih law could affect her and their common children, and she also dreamed of taking the place of Khyurrem Sultan. Therefore, she did everything to push Selim to the throne, and I must admit, she did it perfectly.

The sovereign, by his order, eliminated the main candidate for the throne, Shehzade Mustafa, it remained only to get rid of Bayazid. Here Bayazid himself drove himself into a corner, from which he could not get out, and by order of the sovereign, together with his sons, he was executed.

There were no more candidates for the throne, so Selim calmly waited for the sovereign to vacate his throne.

But he did not enjoy the power for long - 8 years (1566 - 1574).

During the reign of the Ottoman dynasty, Selim has established himself as a merciful and just ruler. He did not execute people left and right, as his father Suleiman the Magnificent did. All the "dirty work" was taken over by Nurbanu Sultan.

Selim, becoming the sovereign, returned all privileges to Mahidevran, and after her death, he built a mausoleum in Bursa, in which he buried his brother Mustafa and his mother.

During the reign of Selim 2, Sokolu Ahmed Pasha was in charge of state affairs. For three years they waged war with the Safavid Empire, Hungary and Venice and conquered Arabia and Cyprus. However, they failed to take Astrakhan.

Selim went to power for a very long time, but did not enjoy it for long. At the age of 51, Selim 2, due to his stupidity and because of his weakness for wine, drowned drunk in a bath, to which his beloved concubine Nurbanu had once taught him.

Selim had two weaknesses - wine and women. The first weakness killed him, and from the second many shehzade were born (according to historical data, the exact number is unknown).

After the departure of Selim 2, Nurbanu placed his body in an ice bath and urgently summoned Murad's son to the capital.

Murad appeared at the palace only 12 days later, and on that day the death of Selim 2 was announced.

Murad took the place of his father on the throne, the rest of his sons from other concubines were executed on the same day.
