For many viewers of the "Magnificent Century", the picture of the execution of Shehzade Mustafa was given very hard. Some condemned the order of the father in relation to his son, others justified, being sure that the padishah could not do otherwise.
But, soon the viewer will see another brutal order in relation to his shehzade Bayazid. The overlord will also give the order to execute his son.
Bayazid, against the will of the sovereign, did not go to the Amasya sanjak, but remained in Kutahya, where he began to gather an army against Shehzade Selim. Having learned about this, the sovereign decided that Bayezid should be punished.
As in the case of Shehzade Mustafa, the padishah asks for advice from Ebusuud Efendi “What to do with the rebel son so that the state and the people who live in it do not suffer”.
The Lord knew what Efendi's answer would be, so after receiving a fatwa from him, he did not dare to read it for a long time.
As Suleiman expected, Efendi replied that he had read many legal books, but found no other punishment. Shehzade started a rebellion against his brother, which means it threatens the ruler, the future dynasty and the state, so there can be only one punishment - execution.
Could the master have done otherwise? No! As a sovereign, he could not disobey the law of Fatih, but as a father, he could prevent his sons' war.
But, as Atmaja once said, “Unfortunately, the sovereign remembers that he is also a father, only after a great tragedy”.
