When Sultan Suleiman learned that Grand Vizier Ibrahim Pasha invited a sculptor to his palace to create his statue, he took this action as a personal insult, considering that the pasha wants to take the place Suleiman.
The Sultan ordered Ibrahim Pasha to be brought to his chambers, where a statue of the Pasha was already standing.
The Sultan reminded Ibrahim of the phrase that he accidentally heard from the Pasha:
"On seven hills, capitals of three continents, surrounded by two seas. The peoples of the Earth will bow their knees before my statues and take an oath to me. "
Sultan Suleiman asked the grand vizier what motivated him: black pride or a thirst for power. Is it really not enough for him that he is the second person in the palace and has huge privileges.
Suleiman, drawing his sword, took off the head of the statue of the pasha, with the words:
“In my country, no one dares to lay statues except my own. And the one who disobeys me will receive a worthy punishment.
Ibrahim Pasha realized that the verdict of fate was elusive, and he lost the Sultan's confidence. Then the Pasha gave the seal entrusted to him to the Sultan and asked for his resignation.
Sultan Suleiman silently took the seal, and the Pasha went to the hunting lodge to await his verdict.
But it is very difficult for Suleiman to make a decision, because Ibrahim Pasha for many years was not only his right hand and the husband of his sister, but also a friend who saved his life more than once.
