When I tell someone from my acquaintances that I ate shawarma for lunch, many fuku. After all, we are used to the fact that shawarma and hot dogs are sold in cafes or fast food stalls. As for the stalls, there is, of course, unsanitary conditions, there is no certainty that the meat is of high quality, like other products. And in a cafe you can sometimes buy something that you don't want to look at such dishes anymore. So, after I say that I had lunch with shawarma, people fukk, and when I say that it is cooked at home, they wave their hands. People have no confidence that it is possible to cook a real, hearty shawarma at home, as from a "harmful" stall. After all, although it is harmful, but tasty?
My friend, when she tried this shawarma, pestered me with requests to open her cafe. Well, not a cafe, but at home to cook to order, and deliver to people. I am sorely short of time, but I will definitely come back to this topic someday, perhaps when I retire. So that's about shawarma. Shawarma cooked according to my recipe is no worse than in Dubai! Cooking shawarma with your own hands
As for the components, I always take them by eye. You decide for yourself what you want to put more and what less.
You will need:
- thin Armenian lavash;
- chicken breast;
- cabbage;
- red salad onions;
- young fresh cucumbers;
- tomatoes;
- yellow bell pepper;
- parsley;
- sour cream
- white wine vinegar;
- garlic;
- salt;
- sugar;
- spice;
- vegetable oil
How to cook:
First you need to cook the meat. And at this time you need to prepare the sauce. To do this, chop the parsley finely, pass the garlic through a press or grate. Mix all this with sour cream, and do not forget to salt a little. You can add some of your favorite seasonings if you like.
Now finely chop the red lettuce onion, pour it into a bowl, cover with wine vinegar, add salt and sugar. Let the onion stand and marinate.
Chop up all vegetables. Do it arbitrarily, I always approach this process in different ways. Now I cut it into strips, then just into small pieces.
Spread the pita bread on the table, and brush it with half the sauce. Top with chopped vegetables. Here the filling is not distributed over the entire surface of the pita bread, but only on one side. Step back from the edge of the lavash, which is closer to you, about a centimeter, and put the vegetables somewhere on a third of the surface.
The cooked breast should be cut into small pieces, then quickly fry in vegetable oil until golden brown.
Put the chicken on top of the vegetables, salad onion, salt, and the remaining sauce on top. It remains only to carefully fold the shawarma, folding the pita bread tightly into a tube. The dish is ready! For a change, you can fry a little shawarma in a grill pan on both sides. It will turn out very unusual if you bake the shawarma in the oven!
Very often, Korean carrots, pickles and even fried potatoes are added to shawarma. I promise, someday I will try to make this dish according to other recipes. But so far, it is the shawarma prepared as described in this article that remains my favorite!
