Despite the fact that there are people who remember with affection about the luxurious life in the USSR, there are those who tell unpleasant things about Soviet times.
So, the myths about the USSR, in which we somehow believe
There were very low salaries in the USSR
A strange delusion. If the USSR existed further, then the average citizens of our country in our time would have wages 4 times higher than they are now. Although many now believe that incomes are higher in our times, the facts easily prove the opposite. Since about the 50s of the last century, the level of annual income of citizens has been steadily growing; by the end of the 80s, this level has quadrupled. Only one ruble would be enough to buy 10 kg of potatoes, 5 loaves of bread, 50 notebooks for schoolchildren, 50 payphone calls and 33 tram tickets.
What are the people who believe that salaries have increased since Soviet times are guided by? Of course, at the level of big cities. It is clear that in Moscow, with a high position in a good firm or with their own business, people can earn very good money. But, unfortunately, most of our population lives from paycheck to paycheck, which means that sometimes they can barely make ends meet. We have to calculate the budget in such a way that there is enough for a communal apartment, loans, children's education, medicine, clothing, food. And sometimes there is not even an opportunity to save.
In the USSR there were problems with the housing issue
A one-room apartment in the USSR cost about 6 thousand rubles. It took about 20-25 years to pay. But there was no interest charge. If a person worked for several years at one state enterprise, he was given an apartment free of charge. Utility bills were 10% of wages, but now? Now a communal apartment is 20-30% of the income of the whole family. An apartment can be taken out on a mortgage at huge interest rates, and nowadays few people give apartments for free.
In the USSR, there was no opportunity to relax in resorts
Of course, the majority of the population was not available abroad, but people still looked for an opportunity to go to the resort. Throughout the Soviet Union, many health resorts were set up to provide rehabilitation and health services. For example, in the suburbs, in Siberia and even in Abkhazia! In the USSR, there were more than 14 thousand rest houses, tourist centers, sanatoriums. And the state partially covered the costs. And all because people were valued not only for the opportunity to work hard, but also for their productivity, and without good rest it was difficult to achieve this.
There was a low level of medicine in the USSR
Do you call modern medicine free? Everybody hopes, when they get sick, to find a highly qualified and disinterested doctor in the state polyclinic. Unfortunately, there are very few of them now! It is much better to go to a paid clinic, where you will be licked from head to toe for a tidy sum. In Soviet times, doctors were professionals in their field, they loved their work, gave themselves completely to it, and did not try to "take on their paws." Any citizen had the opportunity to receive free medical care, and no one had the right to violate this!
There was poor quality education in the USSR
In Soviet times, education was accessible, all that was needed was desire and aspiration! It is now children who go to prestigious schools for parental money, and before they were transferred there for good studies. There was a lot of additional education. Each school had a whole bunch of sections and circles for absolutely every taste. This means that the children were fully occupied, and they did not have stupid thoughts, like our modern youth, who, even during self-isolation, manage to wander around the city in idleness.
Education and clubs were free! And children could develop in the direction in which they are interested. After the collapse of the USSR, the education system did not collapse entirely, and partly remained the same. However, in spite of free education and additional circles, parents are forced to purchase textbooks, workbooks for teaching their children, hand over school for renovation, etc.
So, it is debatable to say that life was bad in the USSR. There are moments that were much better than in our modern times! Do you agree?
