Scientists have proved that the development of a particular disease depends on the patient's sex. It turned out, dementia, Parkinson's disease cerebral infarction (stroke) threatens half of all older women and only a third of all men who have lived under a certain age. Such conclusion was made by scientists from the Erasmus University Medical Center in the Netherlands in order study analyzed data on health status and cause of death of 12 000 volunteers.

A unique experiment began in 1990. The participants at the start of the project was 45 years old and more. And 58% of the subjects were women. All these men were apparently healthy, in any case, they did not have any dementia syndrome, or Parkinson's disease, or stroke. Every 4 years, all participants passed a physical. Collection of information continues until the death of a volunteer, either before of 01.01.2016

Over the 26 years of the study died more than 5 000 people participated in the large-scale project. The cause of death different and largely unrelated to mental disorders. At the same time in one and a half thousand people were diagnosed with dementia associated with Alzheimer's disease. Slightly more than 1 200 patients had a stroke caused by a violation of cerebral circulation. Another 263 volunteers suffering from Parkinson's disease. There were also 438 study participants who had symptoms of several diseases.

Obtained in the course of the experiment the information was analyzed carefully. As might be expected, the risk of developing mental health problems increases with age. However, there were significant differences related to gender-based patients. A chance to get a diagnosis of dementia syndrome at the age of 45 years and up to the end of life have had 48% of all women surveyed and 36% - men. At the heart of these differences is, as the researchers believe the risk of occurrence of the difference of these diseases - 25.9% at women and 13.7% for the stronger sex.

As far as stroke and Parkinson's disease, there is a risk for both sexes is approximately equal to. Only women at the greatest risk in the elderly, and men - in his youth. And as scientists seeing an increase in the rate of aging of the modern world's population, the prevention of mental disorders is relevant to the whole world. If we manage to "push" these diseases are at least a year or three, theoretically it will reduce the risk of each of the pathologies of not less than 20, and even 50%.
