Why vegetarianism spoils health? Medical point of view

I work as a doctor in a city hospital. Recently often treated people who have adopted "fashion movement" - vegetarianism. Most of these patients have a "bunch" of various diseases ranging from anemia and ending with infectious processes. "Maybe it's not because vegetarianism?" - ask the adherents of this movement. But I hasten to disappoint you. For the most part it is a cause. Why is vegetarianism may impair health?

Recently it was from a friend at a party, who had not seen for over a year. Very surprised, his transformation in that time. Previously, he was a healthy, moderately plump man. Now, it was scary to watch - "skin and bones". It turns out he was a few months does not eat meat or eggs, even more so, do not drink milk. On my persuasion that it is injurious to health, he did not respond, but on the contrary even tried to persuade me not to eat meat. To me, he recalled some obsessive idea sectarian.

Now many people are this way of life. Vegetarianism is the failure of human meat products in favor of products of plant origin. There are even different types of vegetarianism:

✔ Normal - are forbidden to eat meat and fish, but allowed milk and eggs

✔ Veganism - allowed only vegetable products

What is vegetarianism harm to the body?

If we approach the issue from a medical point of view, the short-term restriction of meat, it may be useful for the organism. As a result, the intestinal tract is unloaded and purification from an organism different slags. Why in the long run such a diet can harm?

Man giving up meat is no longer getting along with animal protein nutrients, which are needed to produce various hormones. At first, the organism takes the missing elements of the own body reserves, thus sharp deterioration does not occur. But then there is a weakness and fatigue. In consequence of that degrades the immune system, which increases the risk of infectious diseases.

Then starts the process of anemia due to lack of essential vitamins B12 and D. Against this background, there are sleep problems occur and the sharp fluctuations of mental status. Bones become less elastic and more fragile. One awkward movement can lead to injury.

In meat (e.g. beef) contains acid omega - 3 and creatine. They are required by the body for proper operation of the supporting - motor system, cardio-vascular and nervous systems. Lack of these components in failure affects on health. Reaction slows deteriorates memory and reduced physical activity.

It should be borne in mind that every person is different. Someone may stick to the diet for years, and someone will be enough of the week to "plant" their health. Vegetarianism should be approached wisely. And if you decide to take this path, it is only for the purpose of correction of weight (not for a long time, of course).
