How to develop creativity in a child

Creativity is almost the last advantage of people over artificial intelligence.

In today's world, creativity has evolved from talent into an almost mandatory skill. A lot of things have been invented and tested by mankind - then you need a creative application of what is already there, or a search for new non-standard solutions.

Creativity can be either an innate skill - like the ability to draw - or acquired. In any case, the task of parents is to reveal and stimulate this quality.

How to develop creativity in a child?

1. Don't limit your imagination

All children are natural dreamers. And almost everyone is faced with constant restrictions on the expression of their fantasy: "don't talk nonsense", "what did you think up", "you can't draw the sea in yellow, it's only blue" and so on.

And it is adults who create these barriers: they limit the child's imagination, put him in the rigid framework of reality, not allowing him to prove himself an inventor, not stimulating the development of his imagination.

2. Talk about fantasies

Children really lack the attention of adults to the fruits of their imagination. Parents are reluctant to discuss children's fantasies, they are little interested in them. However, lively, interested communication shows the child that you accept his way of thinking, give him the "right to exist."

And, of course, share fantasies from your own childhood, show that your imagination has not hardened under the onslaught of reality.

3. Encourage creativity

Of course, "creating" pictures on the wallpaper is superfluous, but encouraging and supporting the child's desire to engage in drawing, dancing, singing, acting, sewing, etc. - almost a must.

At the same time, we note that it is definitely not worth forcing a child to engage in that type of creativity to which he does not have a soul. Chemical experiments can also be creative - if you approach this issue competently and safely.

4. Read together

Let's make a reservation right away that modern children are not drawn to books if adults do not do the same. So if you want a child to read, you need a personal example.

So, the child should be surrounded by books - both age-appropriate and "for growth." First you read together, then he learns to do it on his own and plunges into new unknown worlds, interesting history - this greatly develops his knowledge of the world around him, human psychology, relationships, natural phenomena and life.

And the more a person knows, the easier it is for him to create something completely new on this foundation.

5. Fight fear and shyness together

It could be said that the child must fight these qualities, but here again one cannot do without a personal example. If at least one of the parents is closed, timid, unsure of himself, the child will become in the same "protective" position in relation to the world around him.

Therefore, it is worth working on your own self-esteem and self-confidence in order to show your child that taking the first step in any business and undertaking is disturbing, but possible. Showing your position, expressing an opinion, making a mistake is also completely normal and natural.

The less you set limits and restrictions for yourself, the wider your possibilities, the more interesting and exciting life, the wider your horizons and the more open your mind to everything new.

6. Train your memory

Poems and songs will help with this. The child can not only memorize them, but also create their own. This requires some vocabulary, a parental example (at least an elementary one), and an acquaintance with what poetry is in general and how they are built.

7. Minimize Gadgets

Cartoons and entertainment videos do not stimulate a child's imagination - they come up with everything for him. You should not completely abandon them either - but filling children's free time with watching videos will not be useful either.

8. Remove some of the toys

Almost every home with a child also has a ton of toys - half of which the baby doesn't even remember, there are so many of them. Try the method of alternating toys so that there are about 10 pieces in front of the child on an ongoing basis (experts advise leaving 4 - but what parent would go for this?).

The fewer toys, the more boring the child, the more active the brain works to come up with a new activity with the available material. An abundance of toys does not develop a child. Just as laziness drives progress, boredom drives creativity.
