Modern beauty trends have made their way to school. Teenage girls at the age of 14-15 dream of enlarging their lips. Some go from fantasy to action. The other day in the Dnieper, one of the schoolgirls was admitted to the hospital with acute necrosis of the lower lip. To enlarge it, the girl herself injected cosmetic oil into it. What are the consequences of such experiments and what other risks are there in the "home" lip augmentation? Elena Cherevko

Schoolgirl almost lost her lips

Trouble happened with a ninth-grader from the Dnieper, reports TSN. According to the schoolgirl, many of her classmates already go to beauty salons and enlarge their lips with filler. This procedure costs from $ 3,000. UAH, and she could not afford it. Therefore, on the Internet, the girl found a life hack on how to enlarge her lips with injections of cosmetic oil for the face.

The girl injected oil into her lower lip, and literally half an hour after the injection, she received a giant swelling. Her parents immediately took her to the hospital, where she underwent three operations in the department of maxillofacial surgery. Even now, doctors cannot fully understand whether they managed to remove all the oil from under the skin. In the best case, the schoolgirl will have a long course of antibiotics and a lot of dressings, and in the worst case, the "beauty procedure" may well provoke necrosis of the lower part of the face.

Risks of "home" beauty injections

The problem arose due to the fact that the schoolgirl injected into her lip a substance that was not intended to be in the tissues, explains Elena Cherevko. Cosmetic oil is used only for external use, and after contact with the skin, it caused an acute allergic reaction. It is good if it is simply localized in soft tissues - then the doctors were able to remove it completely. But if the girl also got into the vessel, then the oil spread through the capillaries, from where it is almost impossible to extract it. It can block blood flow and cause death. Therefore, the doctors' predictions about the patient's recovery are so cautious.

Elena Cherevko categorically warns girls, girls and women from such experiments. Moreover, he does not advise them to save and enlarge their lips at the master "at home". “This procedure can be much cheaper, but it carries enormous risks,” says our expert. “After all, you cannot be sure either of the qualifications of the master, or of the substance that he will inject you.”

According to medical protocols, only a doctor (not a nurse!) Can perform lip augmentation with a filler. It is the doctor who knows to what depth an injection needs to be made, which zones are safe, and where the vessels pass. “Even if you get into the vessel with a certified filler, it will still clog the artery. In this case, you need to immediately inject a person with drugs for necrosis, - emphasizes Elena Cherevko. - Such drugs must be found in every clinic that deals with such procedures. But a home craftsman with a probability of up to 99% may not have it "on hand".

Even if the procedure was successful, but you were injected with an uncertified drug, there are high risks of developing an allergic reaction. “In fillers, the hyaluronic acid molecule is interconnected by means of BDDE cross-links. If there are more of these crosslinks than hyaluronic molecules (which is often the case in drugs from the black market), they are free "Float" under the skin and provoke the development of allergies in the form of severe edema and deformation of the lip line, "explains Elena Cherevko.

Is it safe to enlarge lips at home?

Get long lasting effect lip augmentation at home impossible, notes Elena Cherevko. But there are methods that can give a "beautiful picture" for a time - from several hours to a day. For example, vacuum cans or lip plumpers (pumps): they act like a suction cup. Due to the physical impact on the lips, a slight edema occurs, which externally enlarges the lips. This effect lasts individually - from half an hour to 2-3 hours.

There are also lip glosses and lipsticks, which contain substances that cause irritation to tissues (for example, bee venom). This stimulates blood flow to the lips and creates a puffy effect. The effect also lasts from half an hour to several hours. However, with regular use, the lips "get used" to this stimulation and stop responding to it.

Another method that is now "in use" among beauty bloggers is lip augmentation using saline injections. The effect of increasing (due to edema) in this case can last for 24-36 hours until the saline solution is completely absorbed. Theoretically, this method is absolutely safe, but again: it is very undesirable to carry it out at home. Not knowing where and to what depth to inject, you can get unaesthetic hematomas and bruises instead of a slight swelling.
