Most often, children have problems with the sounds "L" and "R". In this article, we will pay attention to the correct pronunciation of the letter L.

At what age should a child pronounce the “L” sound?

Dear parents, if your child does not pronounce the letter "L" until the age of five, there is no reason to worry. Experts believe that a baby can master all sounds by this age, not earlier.

But, of course, if the child cannot cope with some letters, he can and should be helped.

How to teach a child to say the sound "L"?

To begin with, the child should be explained what is required of him, mechanical recommendations are suitable.

Tell your child that while pronouncing the "L" sound, the tongue should rest against the upper teeth or a little further.

Ask him to keep his palm in front of his mouth while pronouncing and point out that the air flow should come from the sides, and not in the center.

When the child already understands the mechanics of sounding the letter "L", you can move on to specific exercises.

1. Let the baby smile, open his mouth and rest the tip of his tongue against his upper teeth. Tell him to keep his tongue tense. Take several sets so the child learns and gets used to the movements.

2. Let the baby turn on his voice. In some cases, parents manage to achieve clean and correct sound right away.

But if this did not happen, there is another option: the pronunciation of the sound "L" with the tongue clamped between the teeth.

Ask the child to draw out the sound "A" and then bite the tip of the tongue (be careful not to hurt himself). The training can be carried out in a playful manner, for example, by inviting the child to catch the mouse (by biting the tongue). During the exercise, you will get the sound "L", more precisely "aaaL".

How to fix the pronunciation of the sound "L"?

Mom will have to work on consolidating the sound in syllables (la, lo, lu, ly). Then move on to training with the lightest words, for example, varnish, crowbar. If the child already confidently pronounces the letter L in words, you can practice on phrases and short sentences. The main thing is to do it gradually and patiently.
