For children, the ability to tie shoelaces is a valuable and desirable skill. How to develop it?
At about 1 year old, babies stretch out a leg to be shod with. At 2 years old, they can carefully take off their shoes themselves (they can throw them off by jerking their feet even earlier).
At 2.5 years old, babies can put on shoes with the help of their parents, and after a year they can untie their laces and take off their shoes.
Children are ready to tie shoelaces on their own by the example of their parents by the age of 6, so you should not expect much progress in this matter from a three-year-old baby.
For the child to be better able to handle the laces, fine motor skills must be well developed.
Several exercises to develop motor skills:
- attach colored clothespins to colored rings to match the colors;
- stringing beads on a string;
- unwinding and winding spools of thread.
Important recommendations:
1. Do not teach "on the floor" so that you do not have to bend over or sit on the floor, this is uncomfortable, and therefore you will want to quit the lesson.
Clamp your shoes between your knees while sitting, for example, in a chair. A child at this height will be comfortable to watch and practice.
2. Sit next to your child, not opposite each other. If your points of view coincide, then repeating the movements is much easier.
3. Use laces that are soft, non-slip, wide, and easy to practice with.4. Mark the ends of the laces in different colors. So it will be easier for the baby to follow their movement and repeat.
5. Repeat the action at the same time as your child so that he can constantly see your example.
6. Be patient. When the child finally manages to tie the shoelaces on his own, his joy will overlap all your experiences.
Procedure for tying shoelaces
Node for beginners
We put the shoes straight, the ends of the laces are on opposite sides. We take the ends, cross them, tighten them tightly - we get the main knot.
We wrap each end around the fingers to form a loop. Using thumbs and forefingers, thread one loop into the other. We pull the loops in different directions, tightening the knot in the middle.
Rabbit ears
We tie the main knot, from each end of the lace we make small loops, similar to rabbit ears. We apply them crosswise and tighten.
