Rules for preparing for Christmas from the mother of the Duchess of Cambridge

• I start planning my preparations for Christmas shortly after Halloween. I'm a big fan of making lists and try to get everyone involved.

• I try not to make a strict schedule for the holidays. Usually in the morning we go to church, then we go for a walk, then we open some gifts (we leave most of them for the evening). After that - champagne with smoked salmon for lunch, and the main Christmas dishes are left for the evening. But with my little grandchildren, maybe we can move the Christmas dinner over to lunchtime.
