This is the method used by the souvenir manufacturers themselves. It's called stabilization. In the process of stabilization, the plant sap is replaced with a substance that slows down the process of cell destruction and allows you to keep the plant's appearance intact for a period of 2 to 3-4 years. As such a substance, you can use paraffin, gelatin, various saline solutions. However, ordinary pharmacy glycerin has proven itself best of all.

You will need:

  • freshly cut rose
  • glycerin (sold at the pharmacy)
  • boiled water

1. Take a freshly cut rose and cut the stem to a length that is most convenient for storage. Usually 10-15 centimeters of the stem are left for a souvenir. You do not need to pick off the leaves, they will give the plant a more "lively"

2. Dilute glycerin with chilled boiled water in a 2: 1 ratio

3. Split the stem of the rose approximately 1 cm in length in the center to allow moisture to penetrate better into the middle.

4. Place the flower in the solution and place in a dark, cool place for 12-14 days

5. After the allotted time, take out the flower and assess its condition. A sign that the solution has completely displaced water from the plant will be glycerin droplets on the rose petals. As soon as you see these droplets, consider that the stabilization process is over.

6. Take a stand prepared in advance and attach the flower to it with a screw, nail or glue gun. It's great if the stand has a transparent cover (like a flask for souvenirs): this way you will save your product from dust, and it will last much longer.

A little life hack: during the stabilization process, you can give a white rose any unusual shade, just add a few drops to the composition food coloring. So you can "grow" blue, purple, blue and even black "eternal" rose.

If roses are not to your liking, then you can take any other flower for crafts. All of them perfectly absorb glycerin, so you can stabilize even a lily, even a chamomile, even a chrysanthemum, or an orchid. You can get confused and make a whole stabilized bouquet - ikebana. By the way, such interior compositions start on sale from 700 UAH. They will be a stylish decoration for your home or a great idea for an original gift. And in the future, a whole business can grow out of this hobby.
