Coronavirus will not retreat: an epidemiologist told what awaits Ukrainians in the fall
The coronavirus, most likely, will not become a seasonal disease, and Ukrainians should prepare for a long quarantine.
According to the infectious disease doctor and ex-head of the Center for Public Health of Ukraine Volodymyr Kurpita, coronavirus will recede after people develop herd immunity (about 80% of the population should get sick) or a vaccine appears.
In 2020, we first encountered this disease, so many steps were taken with the possibilities and probabilities in mind. Now scientists are drawing new conclusions. For example, there is very little chance that the coronavirus will become a seasonal disease.In addition, the specialist noted that Ukraine may find itself in a period of acute crisis in the fall of 2020. The second wave is predicted to peak in September-October 2020. It is difficult to predict how events in Ukraine will develop, but it is impossible to rule out a strict quarantine copying the events of spring 2020.
The most optimistic forecasts are quarantine until the end of 2021. Of course, it will be adaptive, but long lasting.
