Ukraine has expanded the list of mandatory childhood vaccinations.
From 2022, all children will be compulsory vaccinate from pneumococcal infection, the Ministry of Health said.
Children will have to be vaccinated three times, two times they will be vaccinated in the first year of life, and the third time after the child turns at least one year old.According to the chief sanitary doctor of Ukraine Viktor Lyashko, a technical group of medical experts provided recommendations to the Ministry of Health on including vaccinations in the mandatory calendar.
Pneumococcal infections cause the following diseases:
- Otitis,
- Pneumonia
- Sinusitis,
- Meningitis,
- Endocarditis,
- Septic arthritis
- Peritonitis (rare)
- Bacteremia.
Most often, pneumococcal infections affect children under the age of 5 years, as well as elderly people who have already turned 65 years old.
